Ulat Bulu Raksasa Tak Mempan Insektisida

Giant Silkworm No Impervious Insecticides

Gunung Kidul, KOMPAS.com - Efforts to eradicate giant caterpillars that attack cashew plantations in Hamlet Semuluh, Ngeposari Village, District Semanu, with the method of spraying the insecticide is considered ineffective.

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture Gunung Kidul Supriyadi said the worm eradication with insecticides should see the condition of caterpillars. If the caterpillars are already grown up, certainly not going to die.

"When the caterpillar felt threatened, he will issue a kind of liquid wax that can coat the body from external threats, such as insecticide spraying. Insecticides are effective if the age of caterpillars are still small and not hairy," said Supriyadi, Thursday (26/5/2011 .)

Meanwhile, the Controlling pest officer Department of Forestry and Plantation Gunung Kidul, Simon Sartono, say, seeing a giant caterpillar attack this widespread, it is necessary response efforts with a fast and precise.

"It should be observed intensively, do not be late, to become a butterfly, because her eggs will make a lot of new seedlings. So, one way is to do a cleanup in the garden," said Simon.
