REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA-- Kesadaran masyarakat membangun rumah tahan gempa di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta saat ini berkurang. Peneliti UII Yogyakarta Setya Winarno mengimbau kesadaran itu perlu ditingkatkan melalui peran pemerintah daerah.


"Hasil kunjungan lapangan yang kami lakukan di dua kecamatan, yakni Kecamatan Sewon dan Piyungan, Kabupaten Bantul, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), menunjukkan masyarakat mulai tidak menghiraukan rumah tahan gempa," katanya di Yogyakarta, Rabu.


Menurut Kepala Pusat Peneliti Eksata (PPE) Direktorat Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat (DPPM) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) itu, kondisi tersebut cukup memprihatinkan, karena gempa besar baru terjadi lima tahun lalu.

Masyarakat saat ini cenderung berpikir bahwa gempa besar tidak akan terjadi dalam waktu dekat. "Kesadaran tentang bangunan rumah tahan gempa seharusnya tetap dimiliki masyarakat. Hal itu penting jika mempertimbangkan sifat gempa yang kebencanaannya tidak dapat diperkirakan termasuk tingkat bahayanya bagi masyarakat," katanya.


"Jika tidak ada aturan yang mengikat, dikhawatirkan kesadaran masyarakat semakin lama akan semakin rendah. Kondisi itu perlu untuk menjadi perhatian, karena jika dibiarkan bisa merugikan dan membahayakan masyarakat," kata pakar manajemen rekayasa kegempaan UII itu.
