Merapi Akhirnya Kembali Normal

Yogyakarta - Status Gunung Merapi akhirnya kembali menjadi Normal.

Material yang turun baru sekitar 30-an persen.

Merapi Finally Back Normal

Yogyakarta - Mount Merapi status eventually returned to Normal. This also marks the completion phase of eruptions that occurred since 2010 in the mountains located on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta Special Region.

"The status of starting now become normal, because there is no turbulence and activity in the peak of Merapi and in the abdomen," said Head of Investigation and Technological Development Kegunungapian (BPPTK), Jl Cendana Subandriyo in his office, Jakarta, Friday (16 / 9 / 2011).

He said with a lowered status becomes normal mean phase of the eruption in October and November 2010 had been completed. Based on the study of BPPTK, seismicity was no longer volatile. Deformation or swelling of the body of the mountain is almost non-existent or zero. Lava dome at the top also has not changed.

"The last lava that occurred not due to internal factors," he said.

According Subandriyo, seismic activity was low. Merapi pressure accumulation in the body no longer exists. Lava dome was already stable and shows the process of eruption of Merapi in 2010 has been completed.

"We lowered the status to be normal because the primary threat from Mount Merapi has been declining. Merapi activity was as usual," said Subandriyo.

Nevertheless he said, it reminded of the threat of material that is in the region of Merapi summit there are still hundreds of millions of cubic meters. Materials are down only about 30-an per cent. Thus when the rainy season arrives, the threat of flood lava could still be threatened, especially in Magelang District, Sleman, Boyolali and Klaten.

"Although the sand continues to be mined, we must remain vigilant when the rainy season arrives. Flooding can threaten the miners and people living in watersheds such as Gendok, Opak, Yellow, Woro, Krasak and others," he said.
